RIP Dollar 30th April 2008

Dollar was a very special little guy that came into our care a few weeks ago. He had been dumped in a local industrial park and had a developmental defect that left him with two deformed back legs. He was left into a local vet, who kindly operated on one of his legs to try to improve his quality of life. Following his first surgery, Dollar went into foster care with one of our great fosterers, Rachel, who spoiled him rotten and gave him all the love and attention he had obviously missed out on. Dollar stole the heart of everyone who met him. He was a gem of a dog, great with other dogs, fantastic with children, and an absolute credit to the Pitbull breed. Rachel and him had great plans for him for when he got over his surgery, and he was already star of the Pitbull Agility Class, even though he could hardly climb a step!
Dollar went back to the vets this morning to undergo surgery on his other leg. Unfortunately this time the surgery was a lot more complicated and he was under anaesthetic for a lot longer than previously. This proved too much for the little guy, and he stopped breathing. Despite the vet's best efforts, she couldn't revive him and he passed away this afternoon. Needless to say, everyone who met him is heartbroken.
Our thoughts go out to Rachel and her family at this time.
